Masterprogram i Asienstudier, 120.0 hp, Lunds universitet

Why earn a master s degree in Asian Studies? You need to be prepared for the demands of todays globalized world.

Career prospects: Earning a Masters in Asian Studies can lead to an exciting career in international services, teaching, research, and business, as well as to advanced graduate studies.

The aim of this interdisciplinary programme is to provide you with advanced knowledge about contemporary issues in Asia. Through this programme you will acquire the background knowledge and concrete skills necessary to understand, assess and analyse social, cultural, economic and political developments in the region. You will gain expertise on contemporary Asian societies and will be able to specialise, based on your regional, thematic and disciplinary focus.

Structure: The programme consists of introductory and obligatory courses on economic and political developments in Asia, as well as on international affairs and developmental issues. In additional to the obligatory courses you can also choose between a number of special courses providing in-depth knowledge on issues such as economics, gender, religion, ethnicity, human rights, and environmental issues.

During the third semester you will have the option of participating in an applied fieldwork course in one of our partner universities in Asia, for example in Fudan University in Shanghai, Waseda University in Tokyo, Kebangsan University in Kuala Lumpur, and the Institute of Social Sciences in New Delhi.

The thesis is a one-semester project during which you may carry out fieldwork in Asia, or you can base your research on secondary materials. The Masters thesis should be at least 15.000 words in length. The thesis requires the approval of the programme supervisor and an examiner.
